Hello!

As I write my third log of the year, I’m feeling very satisfied with the new site’s layout. I’ve settled into a really nice workflow for writing, documenting, and sharing. I’m so happy to put my thoughts about this game out there, and I really like coming back and seeing all that has been accomplished already.

I have some really cool things to show y’all this time around.

Planets have made a return. Well... in the form of one, currently. You now have a basic “earth-like” planet to attempt to land on. It has a pretty sizable gravity well, and the variable terrain makes for a challenging approach. Lateral thrusters are currently disabled. If you get stuck on the planet, press the reset button at the top of the page.

2D rendering of a planet with asteroid rings. The planet is being lit by a light source to its right. The planet vaguely resembles Earth.

You’ll notice the terrain is color coded to the biome it is emulating. Foliage will be coming later. I was having some difficulty orienting the trees and brush to face the correct directions. This planet generation is very moderate. I’m working next on generating bodies with more extremes. I would love to see some uninhabitable heated planets, distant ice planets, and I need to decide how I want to depict gas planets.

The asteroids have been unchanged. There is a ring around the planet that you will spawn inside. Navigating left of the screen will put you in the planets gravity.

Thank you for continuing to check in. Writing about this work has been a huge help for my well being. It’s keeping my head on straight and giving me a defined goal forward.

Until next time...
